Frequently Asked Questions

Is there such a thing as self-cleaning glass, or is that conservatory salesman trying to blind me with science?

There are different products described as "Self-Cleaning" glass, but they should really all be called Low Maintenance glass instead. The principle behind it relies on a coating on the glass which combines with sunlight to break down any organic dirt, and then rain washes it away - but it needs ideal conditions for a good result. We need you to sign a before cleaning it.

I'm new to the internet, what does the www in www.windowscleaner.co.uk mean?

Curious, from Mourningsayd.

Thanks for asking, Curious. It's an abbreviation which can mean one of two things. Either "We're Wonderful Window-cleaners", or "We Wipe Window-sills" - both synonymous with Dalzell Window Cleaning Service.

Why do you throw your hands up in horror when you see new decking on a residential job?

Because nobody ever thinks of asking their window cleaner, or anyone else who might be using a ladder on their property, for their input first! Everyone starts out with great intentions, but very few people maintain them properly, and after a year or two, the majority of timber decks start to succumb to the weather. That means they get slippy, more so if they're not completely south-facing. Ladders with safety suction grips are useless on the ribbed surface, so to stop them slipping we insert an angled metal plate into the gap between the boards. This only works on decking which actually has a gap and is parallel to the building, though!

I prefer to have my side gate locked all the time - how do you get round that?

Well, we're certainly not going over it! If you think you might forget to unlock it for us on the day, how about letting us have a spare key for the gate or padlock? No need to worry about us having a key, it'll be on a coded keyfob which means that we'll be able to identify it, but nobody else can. We have keys for many clients, from side gates and garages on residential properties, to security grilles on shops that we clean before they're open - and all clients' keys are kept in a locked keysafe, as you would expect.

You’ve been doing our windows for a while now, and I’ve recently noticed that the PVCu frames on our double glazing are turning pink - how are you going to put that right?

No products that we use have a detrimental effect on any type of window or window-frame that we clean, we’d be out of business fairly quickly if that was the case! The materials used to produce PVCu aren’t all completely pure dead brilliant white strangely enough. PVC in its “natural” state is transparent, so what you are seeing is evidence of either an incorrect quality or quantity of pigment in the formulation for the weather conditions of the country it’s to be used in. Contact your installer to get that put right for you and don’t be fobbed off, it’s called “pinking” and they’ll know what to do. If this phenomenon has affected you, here’s a couple of links I found for your information
