Property Maintenance Advice

Keeping your property well maintained is highly important for homeowners. Regular upkeep of your home can help it maintain or even increase in value and protect any investments that you`ve made.

If you`ve ever seen a house which hasn`t been properly maintained, then you`ll know how unattractive they can become: overgrown gardens, wild hedges, grimy windows and more are the tell-tale signs of shoddy housekeeping. This can be a real eyesore for neighbours and guests and make your home a far less pleasant place to be.

The key to effective property maintenance is do it lots and do it often.

Here are a few key areas in which you should take particular attention when it comes to maintenance.

These are as follows:

Windows
Keeping your windows clean is essential. If you fail to do so, it can be hard to see out of them and they can also harbour germs.

Window frames
Keeping the frames of your windows clean is as important, too. Mould and mildew can build up quickly and this can spell disaster for your window frames and the hygiene in your house.

Conservatories
Are a real boon for homeowners, allowing them to enjoy a feeling of being outside, whilst at the same time being indoors: useful for British weather! However, they can be susceptible to dirt and grime, particularly if they are not used all-year round.

When it comes to these types of fittings, it`s a good idea to have a professional take care of them.

There are many reasons for doing so. Window cleaning professionals will have stacks of experience in getting the filthiest of surfaces looking spiffy. There`s also the benefit of the experience that they will have of scaling ladders, something that most of us aren`t particularly well-versed in.

A window cleaner will also have the know-how to get the best from the array of tools and products that they have. More and more might have a water-fed pole at their disposal, which is a much safer method of cleaning upper windows than the ladder and `squeegee` technique.

The aspect of time is also worth considering. Most of us have busy lives in which making time to painstakingly maintain our property isn`t realistic. Therefore, it`s a good idea to leave the task of buffing up our surfaces to the professionals.

When searching for a window cleaner, always check their reputations. You could ask friends or relatives, or perhaps turn to the internet. And if you're in Scotland, your window cleaner should be licensed by the local council - ask to see his licence!

But even with the best of care, your windows, frames or conservatories may need to be replaced. Therefore, it`s good to sort a good buildings insurance policy, which will adequately cover the permanent fixtures and fittings of your home from damage or destruction. If your current policy is up for renewal, then you may be able to find a cheaper policy, or one which offers better value, elsewhere. You could begin your search by using a comparison website, which will allow you to quickly and effectively look at home insurance quotes from many companies with little effort.
